Our Programs
Our literacy and empowerment programs work together to deliver free education, food rescue, and support services to communities worldwide.
Provide Literacy Services
Provide literacy services to underprivileged kids, youth, women and single mothers in US and across the globe. These include weekly English and STEM classes at no cost. Our mission is to bridge the gap in opportunity for those who have been marginalized, by offering free literacy services, primarily English lessons. By providing them with essential language skills, we give them the tools to overcome barriers and compete on equal footing, opening doors to new opportunities and brighter futures. As of now we are operating in 9 countries, and actively making a difference in the lives of over 3,000 people.

The Problem We’re Solving
Across DuPage, Kane, and Will Counties, over 120,000 residents — including tens of thousands of children — face food insecurity. Meanwhile, an estimated 40% of all food produced in the United States goes to waste. Perfectly good catered meals from events, restaurants, and corporate cafeterias are discarded daily — not because of quality, but because no efficient system exists to redirect them to families who need them most.
Empower Eats was created to bridge this gap. By intercepting surplus meals at the point of waste and delivering them directly to shelters, food pantries, and families facing hunger, we address both food waste and food insecurity simultaneously — and we are expanding our reach beyond DuPage County into Kane and Will Counties.
Empower Eats Impact — Since June 2025
How Empower Eats Works
A streamlined, technology-enabled food rescue operation built for speed, safety, and dignity.
Identify Surplus
Local restaurants, catering companies, and event hosts flag surplus meals through our Bridge 2 Meal app or direct coordination with our team.
Mobilize & Rescue
Our dedicated volunteer network mobilizes to pick up meals, ensuring food safety standards are met at every step of the process.
Deliver with Dignity
Rescued meals are delivered same-day to shelters, food pantries, and families facing food insecurity — with care, respect, and consistency.
Scaling Impact Year Over Year
- Program launched with support from local elected officials
- Established initial restaurant and catering partnerships
- Built and launched the Bridge 2 Meal app on iOS
- Expanded to 5 food rescue partners
- Hosted Compassionate Kitchen Award ceremony (January 2026)
- Expanding into Kane and Will Counties
- Cumulative total to date: 15,000+ meals rescued across Years 1 & 2
Bridge 2 Meal App
What sets Empower Eats apart from traditional food rescue programs is our proprietary technology. The Bridge 2 Meal app — winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge — creates a real-time digital bridge between food donors and recipients, eliminating coordination barriers that cause most surplus food to go to waste.
- Real-time surplus meal notifications to nearby volunteers
- Intelligent donor-recipient matching by location and capacity
- Food safety tracking and delivery verification
- Impact dashboards for donors, volunteers, and partners
Most small nonprofits rely on phone calls and spreadsheets. Bridge 2 Meal brings enterprise-level logistics to community food rescue — making the operation faster, more reliable, and scalable to new regions.
Recognition & Partnerships
Empower Eats has earned the trust of government leaders, community organizations, and corporate partners.
2025 Congressional App Challenge Winner
Rep. Lauren Underwood named Bridge 2 Meal the winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Illinois’s 14th District — an official initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives. Among 4,600+ apps submitted by 13,800+ students nationwide, Bridge 2 Meal was recognized for its innovative approach to community food rescue.

- Supporting whole families, not just students
- Directly tied to our education and literacy sessions
- Partnered with trusted local organizations and volunteers
When children are nourished, they learn better, grow stronger, and build confidence. PlateFul ensures that education doesn't happen on an empty stomach, and every student we support has the fuel they need to succeed—both in the classroom and at home.

We provide financial support to girls, young mothers, and victims of domestic abuse, helping them cover essential expenses such as housing, childcare, education, and basic needs. This immediate relief allows families to focus on rebuilding their lives and achieving long-term stability.
Essential Resources and Support
Beyond financial aid, EmpowerHer offers care packages containing daily essentials like food, clothing, and hygiene products. We also provide access to educational materials and tools to promote learning and personal growth, enabling individuals to gain the skills they need to succeed.

We understand the emotional toll that adversity can take, which is why EmpowerHer offers mental health resources, including counseling services and support groups. These services are designed to help individuals process trauma, build resilience, and develop the confidence needed to move forward.
Breaking Cycles of Violence and Poverty
Our goal is not just to offer temporary relief but to create lasting change. By addressing the root causes of hardship, including domestic violence and economic instability, EmpowerHer helps break destructive cycles and fosters a culture of empowerment, resilience, and hope for future generations.
